16 October 2020What is Drain Lining?
Drain relining uses a new drain lining that is attached to the inside of an existing pipe, creating a protective layer. This forms a coating that protects against cracks and other potential damage. Drain lining is a cost-effective, mess-free alternative to traditional drain repairs and replacements.

Drain Relining vs Drain Replacement?
Drain relining is a cheaper and less disruptive alternative to drain replacement. Drain relining helps to fix, prevent, and protect pipes from cracks, breaks and tree root infestation. It is essential to have one of our specialised engineers assess the damage of your pipe to ascertain whether drain relining is possible or whether the pipework needs to be replaced.
Benefits of Drain Lining?
- Less Disruptive – instead of having to damage groundwork such as pathways or gardens, using our trenchless technology, we avoid the disruption of excavating and replacing pipework. This means that there is little to no clean up following the drain relining procedure.
- More Cost-Effective – unlike drain excavation, there is no cost for digging up any ground, and the finished pipeline achieves the same result as a new set of pipes.
- Increased Flow Rates – the new layer eliminates the build-up of obstructions on pipework that would have been present prior to the drain relining procedure.
- Prevents Tree Root Infestation
How Long Does Drain Relining Last?
Drain patching and relining are guaranteed to last 50 years.
How We Work?
First, we remove and clean any blockages from the pipe. Then a flexible liner impregnated with resin is pushed through the drain, whilst an airbag is also pushed through to mould the resin to the pipe. The liner is heated, and once cooled will mould exactly to the sides of the original pipe. Once the airbag is removed, it leaves behind a smooth new pipe inside the original.
This method can be used for drains with diameter ranges of 100mm to 1200mm.
At KD Drainage, we provide drain relining, drain replacement and localised structure repair (LSR). If you have pipework with a smaller diameter than this please look at our LSR service.
How Much Does It Cost?
The cost of drain relining varies per job. Various factors such as the condition of the pipework are considered. However, we operate on a low hourly rate and there is a no call out charge. For a free quote click here.
